Similar to other regions within the valley, Alamo grew due to its climate and location in the Bay. It has Spanish roots and slowly expanded. However, the area really took off following World War II. The Roundhill Country Club opened in 1960 and Interstate 680 finished in 1964.
Alamo is another city within the tremendous San Ramon Unified School District. The district has four high schools including San Ramon Valley High School, Monte Vista High School, Dougherty High School, and Del Amigo High School. These schools are fed by award winning elementary and middle schools where most students go on to post-high school education.
Within close proximity to Alamo, an annual film, food, and wine festival occurs. The Danville/Sycamore Rotary runs the event for the benefit of numerous organizations. Wineries and restaurants from Danville, Alamo, Dublin, and San Ramon service the event.
