Walnut Creek has a dynamic history as three groups of Bay Miwok Indians are connected with it.  Walnut Creek grew from Mexican settlors along with Native Americans.  Following the Mexican-American War, Americans began to settle in the region with the first American settlement being at the corner of Mt. Diablo and N. Main Street.  Walnut Creek exploded with the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad.  Today, it has numerous shops and businesses.  Downtown Walnut Creek has become a destination center.

The area schools are part of one of several school districts:  Walnut Creek School District. Mount Diablo Unified School District. Acalanes Union High School District, San Ramon Valley Unified School District, and the Lafayette School District.  Each district has its own level of success  with varying test scores.  Walnut Creek’s size and diversity makes it ripe for bringing a variety of cultures within its schools.

Within Walnut Creek, the Iron Horse Regional Trail runs through.  Initially, it was a railroad but then converted to a corridor for bikes and pedestrians.  It runs from Dublin to Concord while running through Walnut Creek.

The town has numerous events throughout the year through its library, art gallery, theater, and local organizations.  One of these nearby events is the Blackhawk Food, Wine, and Film Festival.  The Danville/Sycamore Rotary organizes this event each year to benefit numerous charities.  Restaurants from the Danville region and wineries from Livermore attend.
