Lafayette is a town named after the French general, who was a hero of the American Revolution. It is 15.4 square miles and located just east of Berkeley, separated by the Berkeley Hills. The city is neighbored by Orinda and Oakland. Lafayette is also close to Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Concord, and Alamo. It also has a major BART station that connects the community to major Bay Area hubs like San Francisco and Oakland.

The city has a rich history as it was inhabited by the Sacian tribe of the Bay Miwok Indians. The area was the subject of battles between the natives and Spanish. It was eventually granted to the Mexicans and the first post office was established on March 2, 1957. This is when the name came together.
Lafayette has a population exceeding 25,000 with an average income that exceeds $115,000 per year. The city’s residents began placing crosses on the hills with each one representing a soldier who had died in Iraq. This area has its supporters and dissidents. Beyond the crosses, the city has a historical theater, numerous small shops, and a library that is part of the Contra Costa County library system.
The area schools are part of the Mount Diablo Unified School District and Acalanes Union High School District. Each district has varying degrees of success in their test scores. The schools are also representative of the rich diversity of cultures in Lafayette.
Lafayette has several events throughout the year through its theater, library, and local organizations. One of these nearby events is the Blackhawk Food, Wine, and Film Festival. The Danville/Sycamore Rotary organizes this event each year to benefit numerous charities. Restaurants from the Danville region and wineries from Livermore attend. The festival is also filled with great entertainment and activities.
